A chieftain of the Accord Party, Israel Jagunmolu, has predicted that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, had claimed that the Governor Ademola Adeleke could face legal challenges, even if he emerges victorious at the Saturday August 15 governorship poll
Jagunmolu, a chieftain of Accord party in Lagos, in a statement on behalf of the faction of the Accord Party led by Prof. Chris Imumolen, said Imumolen was confident that Adeleke would be defeated in the election.
He, however, said that even if the governor managed to secure victory at the polls, the ongoing legal dispute over the leadership and structure of the Accord Party could have implications for his political position.
According to Jagunmolu, the leadership dispute involving rival factions of the party is currently before the Federal High Court in Abuja following proceedings at the Court of Appeal.
He quoted Imumolen as expressing confidence in the outcome of the case.
“We are expecting victory in the judgment very soon,” Imumolen was quoted as saying.
Jagunmolu said the Imumolen-led faction considers the legal dispute to be more than an internal disagreement, arguing that it involves questions relating to the legitimate leadership and structure of the Accord Party and the authority to exercise the party’s political mandate.
He maintained that the outcome of the legal proceedings could have political consequences for candidates contesting under the Accord platform, including Adeleke.
The Accord chieftain said the Imumolen camp remained confident that the courts would eventually affirm its position on the party’s leadership.
He further argued that Adeleke’s political prospects should not be assessed solely on the basis of the August 15 election, but also in the context of the ongoing litigation involving the Accord Party.
The statement urged voters and other stakeholders to pay attention to both the electoral contest and the legal developments surrounding the party as the governorship election draws closer.
However, the claims regarding the likely outcome of the election and the pending court case remain the positions of the Imumolen-led faction and have not been established as facts by the court or electoral authorities.
Osun State is scheduled to hold its governorship election on August 15, 2026, with Governor Adeleke seeking another term in office.
