The Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ebonyi State in the 2027 general election Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, has donated N5 million naira to victims of flood disaster in Akaeze Ivo local government area area of the state.
Odii represented by the state party Chairman Mr Chukwuma Igwe, made the donation on Thursday when he led a team of party officials on a condolence visit to the community.
Odii noted that no life was lost however described the incident as a national disaster resulting from heavy rain and natural disasters.
“We are here with the entire officials of our party to commiserate with you on this tragedy that has befallen the community”
“NIMET early this year has been announcing areas that are prone to flood, warning government to take precautionary measures to avert this calamity”
“We are not in government yet, but by your votes, next year when we assume office you will take permanent strategies and measures to forestall this dissater”
Chief Odii appealed to intervention agencies including State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to come to the assistance of the victims.
The flood disaster which occured on Tuesday affected 54 families destroying several houses and properties worth millions of naira.
The communities affected included Umuonu, Amaegbu, Ogidi and other communities of the area.
Speaking on the occasion, the PDP Candidate for Ohanivo Federal Constituency Hon Felix Igboke, assured the people that intervention agencies would be informed of the incident.
“We saw what happened last Tuesday, we are here to sympathize with the victims, we are doing this as a party, not as a government”
Recounting their ordeals in an interview, two of the victims Mr Okorie Owoh and Mrs Ngozi Obasi lamented that the flood wrecked many havoc in the area stating that the disaster has caused untold havoc in the area.
“This incident happened on Tuesday, before we know it flood has ravaged our houses and destroyed our properties”
They appealed to the government, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other spirited individuals to intervene and assist the victims at this moment of their travails.
In attendance during the visit included the PDP House of Representative Candidate for Ohanivo
federal constituency in next year general election Chief Felix Imoke, Engr Johnson Ugoke, party officials, town union leaders and stakeholders of the community among others.
