The Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Obi, says the party remains the only option to salvage Nigeria.
Obi stated this at the Obi/Kwankwaso Presidential Town Hall Meeting organised by the Sokoto State Chapter of the NDC, held at Sokoto Guest Inn, Sokoto State, on Monday.
The former Anambra State governor attended the meeting alongside his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The Sokoto State governorship candidate of the NDC, Dr Shamsuddeen Aliyu Haido, also joined stakeholders and supporters at the meeting to discuss issues relating to politics and the future of the state and the nation.
Obi emphasised that the incumbent APC government has failed Nigerians; hence, citizens must leverage the forthcoming 2027 general elections to vote for him and Kwankwaso, as well as other candidates of the NDC at all levels, to take “Nigeria out of the doldrums.”
He further said it is the collective responsibility of all Nigerians to vote for the NDC with a view to solving the recurring problems facing all parts of Nigeria.
The former Anambra State Governor noted that the Obi/Kwankwaso ticket is unwaveringly committed to ensuring “politics of care and service to Nigerians.”
While lamenting that Nigerians are poorer now, Obi vowed to use the country’s resources to improve security, education and all sectors of the economy.
He further promised to reinstate the petroleum subsidy, adding, “We will do this only after curbing corruption.
“We will also make sure that railways connect all state capitals of the country to bolster the economy.”
Also speaking, Kwankwaso said the visit was to meet with the people of Sokoto and seek their support and cooperation to succeed during the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
The former Kano State Governor disclosed that during a visit to the Sultan earlier, the Sultan had prayed for them and extended his goodwill for the Obi/Kwankwaso ticket.
According to Kwankwaso, although all parts of Nigeria are facing one problem or the other, the North-West is now the epicentre of banditry and kidnapping, among other recurring challenges.
“We are therefore committed to mitigating all these challenges and making Nigeria better,” he said.
Speaking earlier, the Sokoto State governorship candidate of the party, Dr. Shamsuddeen Haido, pledged to ensure good governance if elected.
