A former governorship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in Ondo State, Dr Abbass Mimiko has formed a political group to campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 elections.
Mimiko said the group, ‘One Love Coalition for Tinubu’, would involve members of ZLP, student leaders and other lovers of President Tinubu who are not members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking with reporters at his residence in Ondo in the Ondo West local government area of the state, Mimiko said President Tinubu does not belong to the APC alone but to every Nigerian. He said he would inaugurate the group in all the local governments and senatorial districts in the state to ensure the seamless reelection of President Tinubu
Justifying his support for Tinubu’s reelection ahead of ZLP presidential candidate Mr Dan Nwayawun, Mimiko said President Tinubu has brought development to the country since assuming office, and there is no need to change the winning team.
Mimiko said he would be the Director General of the coalition and would bring ethnic and religious leaders living in the state into the group to ensure that the state returns over one million votes to President Tinubu in the 2027 election
His words: “We are getting leaders of the Igbo tribe, Hausa tribe, Fulani tribe, Igbira tribe, and all the tribes in Ondo State. We are getting the religious leaders who are usually apolitical and involved. When the righteous rule, the people rejoice.
“You cannot sit in the comfort of your churches or mosques and say, ‘ Whatever happens, happens. You have got to come out for what is right. We have to educate them. I am going to be, we are going to be tasking the students of Nigeria, for that matter.
“We are going to engage the students as well. We will tell them not to assume that if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not president tomorrow, that NELFUND continues. Don’t make that assumption. You’ll be goofing. You will have a president who says, well, let their parents struggle and pay if they want their children to go to university or polytechnic.
“Let them come up with the money. If you become complacent and you take things for granted, 1.8 million of you, half of you might be in the street tomorrow. So, we engage these students, the market women, people from all walks of life are going to be engaged. And then we set up a robust platform, and we start the campaign door-to-door, house-to-house.”
Mimiko said the President was not responsible for the hardship in the country because of the hike in petroleum prices. He said the governors and local government chairmen should be held accountable for how they use the enormous resources from the removal of the subsidy from petroleum prices.
